A.) Lil Hardin Armstrong: Beauty & The Satch(mo)
Lil Hardin-Armstrong at the piano with Louis Armstrong kneeling in front of the classic groundbreaking jazz band, King Oliver's Original Creole Jazz Orchestra.
Native Memphian Lil Hardin Armstrong (1898-1971) Was The Mastermind Behind The Emergence Of Louis Daniel Armstrong The Universally Renowned Musical Genius/Revolutionary Known As Satchmo. A True Sophisticated Lady, Lil made sure that the world fell in love with her Louie the same way she did as a young pianist in the legendary King Oliver Creole Jazz Orchestra. In a rare interview and in her own words listen to her describe the 1920s jazz scene and the ascension of Louis Armstrong as King of Jazz and into the pop culture stratosphere.
Lil Hardin Armstrong was arguably in her own right a very talented composer and musician. However, her own personal ambitions were second to her aspirations for her husband. She helped arrange the Hot Five and Hot Seven recording sessions which are considered by many to be the greatest and most important in jazz music history because those sessions set the stage for things to come in American music and beyond. Her association and collaboration with Satchmo ensured her immortality if not name familiarity.
